Another fascinating alternative of Inca trail to reach the wonderful architectural complex of Machupicchu, which for many is the main objective of visiting Peru. On this alternate route we will pass through high Andean villages; the interesting archeological center of Huchuy Qosqo (small town) that has different constructions of stone with clay and that was possibly the last abode of the Inca Wiracocha; the sacred valley of the Incas; and its impressive landscapes with abundant flora and fauna typical of the Cusco region.

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO ‐ HUCHUY QOSQO

Pick up from the accommodation at 6:00 a.m., transfer to the archaeological site of Tambomachay; the walk will begin in this place, and continue through landscapes of puna and over the Sicllaccasa pass (4020 m / 13186 ft).We will walk along a trail that leads to the Ccauca ravine, where we will find archaeological remains and wild crops, such as tarwi, and a large number of cacti. We reach the Queullococha pass (4185 m / 13727 ft), surrounding the area with spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of Verónica, Pitusiray and Chicón. We walk along the Queullococha Lake, where we can see huallatas, ducks and small fish and then climb to the Challu Challu Pass (4220 m / 13842 ft).

Then we ascend to the fourth step in Rumicruz (4230 m / 13874 ft). Then we make our way to the Inca quarry (4220 m / 13842 ft), which was the place where the stones were extracted to build Huchuy Qosqo. DAY 2: HUCHUY QOSQO – LAMAY – AGUAS CALIENTES

After breakfast; we leave at 7:00 a.m. from our campsite to continue to Huchuy Qosqo. Walk downhill to the Leon Punku ravine, where we find remains of an Inca bridge and trails. This canyon has geological formations surrounded by majestic rocks and that direct the river to Huchuy Qosqo at (3600 m / 11808 feet). Huchuy Qosqo is an Inca archaeological complex with imposing architecture that includes a large ceremonial center, from which we enjoy a panoramic view of the Sacred Valley. Then, the explanation begins to walk about two hours to the next point, going down about two hours until we reach Taucca, where we have the lunch place, from here we take our transport to Ollantaytambo station where we take the train to Aguas Hot, we spend the night in a beautiful Hotel in Aguas Calientes. huchuy qosqo trek to machupicchu

lDAY 3: MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

We arrived that we were all waiting for, one of the 7 wonders of the world and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO we will wake up early and after breakfast option to walk or board the bus to Machupicchu, we will make a 30-minute trip arriving at the citadel of Machupicchu. We will have a guided tour of 2 hours and 30 minutes to know the most important places of Machupicchu, you can visit the most impressive places such as the Royal Mausoleum, the 3-window temple, the main temple, the Sacred Square, the famous Intihuatana where Incas sages tied the sun on the winter solstice in June, stairways, squares, fountains, etc.

After the tour you have free time of a few more hours to visit Machupicchu on your own and if you go if you want to climb one of the mountains – Huaynapicchu (must be booked in advance) Then you will have to return to the town of Aguas Calientes, where you will have time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon you will take the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy (Depends on availability) where our transport will wait for you to return to Cusco.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

  • To climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu or Machupicchu mountain, there is a limit of spaces per day, it is recommended to check availability with us and book in advance.
  • The pick-up, arrival and train schedules are referential, this will depend on the availability of the train company.
  • We always do our best to follow the fixed itinerary, however it may change from time to time based on temporary weather and park restrictions, availability, weather, road closures, guest / injury capacity and natural events such as fires and floods.
