The Inca Empire, called the Quechua Empire or Tawantinsuyu, extended from present-day Ecuador to present-day Chile, its capital, Cusco, which means Navel of the World. The Incas were, according to the Spaniards of the 16th century, the best organized society in the world. This empire had a gigantic but perfectly organized infrastructure. The media were also well organized, thanks to the access roads and the messengers (Chasquis) that traveled the territory, both to transmit information or orders and to deliver merchandise. The Inca Trail is the most popular trek in Peru and one of the 10 best in the world.
